Naturally processed beans with a strikingly strong fruity character, typically originating from Central and South America.
For the 2024-25 season, the beans worthy of this name come from La Divisa farm, located just outside the town of Circasia in Colombia’s Quindío region. They were grown by visionary farmer Sebastian Gomez.
This microlot consists of 100% Castillo variety. Developed in the early 2000s by Colombia’s National Federation of Coffee Growers (Federación Nacional de Cafeteros) through a cross between Caturra and Timor, the Castillo variety is higher-yielding than Caturra and significantly more resistant to diseases like coffee leaf rust. Additionally, its medium-sized trees and the uniform ripening of coffee cherries make selective handpicking much easier.
In this naturally processed lot, the key to quality and flavor lies in the meticulous drying of the cherries under the sun, on raised beds with controlled temperatures, until they reach the ideal moisture level.
The result is a true “tropic punch” — a natural coffee celebration with a bold yet clean tropical character, or in other words, a “funky” delight. It’s sweet, powerfully flavored, clean and clear, and distinctly tropical.
